WEEK 2 - Islamic Sustainable Development

Class Overview

Today's class is about the relation between Islam and Sustainable Development. Lecturer explained about Akhlaq (morality) that Islam already taught us and that is SD. The teaching is more to relation between Allah, us and other kinds like how we sustain something that relate with us. For example, relation between us and other kinds, we give food to the cat when we see it come to ask food.

Personal Reflection

I found the discussion on this are a little bit surprise for me because Islam already taught us how to sustain and develop this world, and i never thought about it. I was never think that every morality in Islam can develop our country on aspect social, society and environment because I always think about morality's goal (do something good for Allah), not its benefit to us. Its very understandable when the lecturer give various examples so that we can relate with our life. I also found that how Islam is very systematic that easy for us to worship our God and sustain our world at the same time. This learning has opened my eyes to the broader implications of following Islamic morals aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Application of Learning

Islam teaches balance and moderation and  I will try to reduce waste and make more sustainable choices in terms of the resource I use. I also will strengthening my relationship with others and the environment by being more conscious about my actions toward animals and nature or avoiding wasteful behavior that harms the environment. In term of social responsibility, I will help those in need if that will contribute to societal sustainability.

Areas for Improvement

Read more about facts and how the verses in Quran relate with our actions in our life. Find more about pros and cons of our actions that we did. Try to look more about Adab with different culture because different culture, different morality. It is because i lack of knowledge about culture too.

Conclusion

This class helped me realize how Islamic teachings on morality are closely linked to sustainable development. I now understand that following these principles benefits not only our relationship with Allah but also our environment and society. Going forward, I will be more mindful of my actions, reduce waste, and strengthen my relationships with others and nature. I also plan to learn more about how Islamic teachings apply to everyday life and different cultures. I am looking forward to what will be discussed next class.
