WEEK 3 - Maqasid Shariah and Sustainable Development

Class Overview

Instead of a traditional classroom session, today's class took place at the IIUM Gallery, where we explored the rich history, achievements, notable alumni, and various organizations associated with the university. The visit allowed us to gain more deeper understanding of IIUM's legacy and impact. This offer us opportunity to connect with IIUM's values and milestones. The lecturer assigned us a task; write three exciting observations about Maqasid Shariah and Sustainable Development.

Personal Reflection

I found the tour are very enjoyable because it allowed us to dive into development of the university while completing the task given by our lecturer. As I walked through gallery, I realized how many aspects relate to Maqasid Shariah in various ways. For example, the book "Marriage in Islam" connects with SDG 5 (Gender Equality). What intrigued me the most was the development of IIUM itself, seeing how many steps and efforts were involved, and how difficult it must have been to achieve, yet these accomplishments have made a significant impact on society. The tour left me feeling inspired, energized and determined by the successes of those who established an Islamic University.

Application of Learning

IIUM provides us with the facilities and environment to grow and work toward our dreams. The inspiration I took from the tour motivates me to stay on track with my own goals. I aim to embody more Islamic values in my behavior and actions. The team activities also helped cultivate better communication and stronger relationships, which I know will be beneficial in the future

Conclusion

I now have a clearer understanding of the connection between Maqasid Shariah and Sustainable Development seeing they align in sustaining the world in a balance way. I plan further explore this relationship to deepen my knowledge. I am looking forward to what will be discussed in the next class

  3. Hi Amir, it seem to be quite interesting and explorable for this class. I happy to see that your lecture is understanding the students. Sometimes, the class should be more out of the box to attract the students and fresh out their brain from the narrow class.
    Thats all. Good luck Amir!
