WEEK 5 - Sejahtera as Local Concept of Sustainable Development

 

Class Overview

Our class for today is exploring IIUM Dar Al-Hikmah Library, where we can gain knowledge because all kind of books and articles at there. We explored a lot of place inside the library and we found many thing that can relate to Sustainable Development and Maqasid Shariah. Our lecturer assigned us a task; tske exciting photos with several books or references or exhibition materials related to the Sejahtera Concept. Then, write three lessons about Sejahtera Concept for Sustainable Development from the readings of books and articles.

Personal Reflection

When i observe inside library, I found that the library are full of technology that ease us to find the book. It is very interesting because this library is not only provide book and materials but full of picture of information about Islamic scholars (can refer to the picture above). Also, the environment are very harmony because the place are very systematic and clean. Reading place for male and female are separate to avoid ikhtilat between them. The place are very relaxing but not making me sleepy but feel more energic. It was a good experience because there are lot of information i got from the activity and spending time with my friend (My teammates) at the same time. As I walked through library, I felt ashamed because i did not spend my time with reading books to increase the knowledge. 

Application of Learning

IIUM provides facilities and environment for us to increase our knowledge and helping us with research materials. I aim to be at library at least once a week to motivate myself reading book or articles, which I know will be beneficial in the future. 

Conclusion

The visit to the IIUM Dar Al-Hikmah Library was both informative and invigorating, since the library demonstrated in a multitude of ways the manner through which it would contribute towards achieving Sustainable Development as well as the Maqasid Shariah. Its high technology and the organized surroundings make easy and even enjoyable access to the books, searching for the information one needs about the Islamic scholarship in that very setting. The experience showed me how important knowledge acquisition and a suitable learning space means. As I look back at this visit, it dawned on me that I need to allocate more time for reading and learning. Further ahead in life, I will continue paying visits to the library for further enrichment in the learning journey and for the fulfillment of intellectual and spiritual growth.
